After travelling through the desert, we made it to Jiayuguan Fort - also known as the west end of the infamous Great Wall. The fort was built to help keep invaders from central asia out, and was at the time, at China's most western border point.
Having been to the Great Wall near Beijing on a separate trip to China, it was great to see the wall from another angle, with it differing in style, design and it's surrounds. I think, however, that the wall near Beijing, as it follows the mountains is a bit more exciting and the classic Great Wall people want to see. But it was still great to see this part of the wall, and it is definitely recommended if in the area (Gansu provence).
Next: more photos from along the Silk Road and then, Heavenly Lake.
