arba minch, ethiopia:

Arba Minch is a larger sized town located just before the Omo valley, and is where we stayed near for a night either side of our Omo adventure. The town of Arba Minch itself isn't overly interesting, however its location is stunning! Arba Minch is perched on the edge of the Great Rift Valley and is also near two large lakes - Lake Chamo and Lake Abaya.

We spent the nights up in the mountains above Arba Minch near a beautiful Dorze village. The Dorze are famous for their cotton spinning and weaving, creating beautiful and bright textiles. They're also famous for their extremely unique and beautiful huts. At a height of 5-6 metres, they are incredible structures! The area also has sweeping views of the Great Rift Valley and lakes below, which made for an epic introduction and finish to our time in southern Ethiopia.

We also spent a bit of time on Lake Chamo, taking in the local wildlife which included Crocodiles, Hippos and a vast array of birds. The Crocodiles found here are apparently the largest in all of Africa, and after spotting a few, I wouldn't argue with that statement. They are HUGE!

We were sad that this part of our Ethiopian adventure was at an end. We had met some amazing people, made new friends and had some of the most memorable travel experiences of our lives! But we were also super excited for the next part of our trip and what lay ahead.

next: we head to eastern Ethiopia and the old walled town of Harar.
