maps:

So while I was unpacking last week, I came across all of these old travel maps and brochures from the 50s and 60s, which I had bought a few years ago while perusing a second-hand book shop with my friend Nina. Graphically, they are really beautifully illustrated and really interesting to have flick through. Thought I'd share a few details from some of my faves. I was thinking it'd be quite cool to use them on a trip, would be interesting to see where we'd end up!
I'm also trying to think of ways I can display them, but am a bit stuck...( Iwas thinking of a getting a few framed). If anyone has any ideas, I'd love to hear from you!

  1. This is such an amazing collection of maps! I especially love the Yugoslavian and Czechoslovakian maps - but that's probably because those borders have since changed a great deal.

  3. Stunning maps! Love them all! My best friend runs a small business called Lumiere Art+Co (check it on facebook) and creates stunning paper buntings and wooden boxes covering them with old pages from books and maps. It may give you some inspiration, or someone to contact and commission some work from you. I have been loving this blog, so thank you for sharing your travels and amazing eye and images. Pia :-)

  12. Wow you scored! These are fab - I can see the designs printed onto silk scarves... Or else onto canvas fabric, and mounted in the old-skool map way, with timber rods top and bottom, suspended with twine... Both of these ideas however entail capturing the image digitally... Will any of your photos be high-res enough?

  13. These maps are a beautiful collection what a great find, they remind me of vintage silk scarves I bought in Italy of maps of Naples and I sent them to my girlfriend in Australia and she made skirts from them and sold them at the markets.

    of the next trip!
