oaxaca city, mexico:

beautiful oaxaca city
After spending five days in Mexico City, it was time to move on to our next destination, the state of Oaxaca. We caught a local bus to Oaxaca City, where we planned to base ourselves for another five days, before making our way down to the Pacific Coast. I was giddily excited about the prospect of visiting Oaxaca City, as the state is the one of the most culturally vibrant in all of Mexico. With a large indigenous population, it is home to many incredible creative traditions such as weaving, ceramics, embroidery and many other forms of colourful expression.
It didn't disappoint at all. Oaxaca is gorgeous! Staying in the historical part of town, we were surrounded by quaint cobble stone streets, colourful and crumbling facades and a really chilled vibe. The town is perfect for exploring on foot, and also serves as the perfect base to explore smaller towns further a field. We adored every moment we spent in Oaxaca, and met many travellers who were on their second or third visits, having fallen in love with the area too.

Over the next few posts I'll not only share photos from our time exploring the city, but nearby towns where we met textile weavers and experienced the local markets.
