luang prabang, laos - part 1:

After a 24 hours exploring Kuala Lumpur, we were off to Luang Prabang, Laos, where we would spend the majority of our trip. I have been to Laos before, about five years ago with Andy, and thought it would be the perfect destination for mum's surprise trip. And yes, she loved it!
Luang Prabang is a beautiful, chilled town up amongst the hills of northern Laos, surrounded by the Mekong and Nam Khan rivers. As Laos was once under French colonial rule, you can see a strong European influence, especially in the architecture throughout the town. In addition there are numerous Buddhist monasteries (some over 500 years old) which with the gentle nature of the Lao people and natural setting, makes for a really stunning mix.
I found the town hadn't changed all that much since my last visit, with just a few extra hotels and a few more cars on the road, but nothing drastic or that took away the charm I first fell in love with. It was so good to be back!

Below are some photos from our first day in town.

next: more snaps from Luang Prabang including our elephant mahout course and the Kuang Si waterfalls.

kuala lumpur, malaysia - part 2:

Even though our stay in Kuala Lumpur was short and sweet, I feel we really got to see and experience what the city is all about. It also left me with me a desire to return and explore more of Malaysia, in particular Borneo and the islands.

Below are some more snaps before moving on to Luang Prabang Laos.
