zagreb, croatia:

We woke up at the crack of dawn and boarded a train bound for Zagreb, Croatia - a short stop over while on our way to the northern coast of the country.
Prior to visiting Zagreb, we had heard many positive things about the city - mainly that of it being an underrated and overlooked part of Croatia - which is famous for its glistening coastline and islands.

I'm happy to report it was definitely worth the stop!

We spent a night in the grand Esplanade Hotel and enjoyed a relaxing afternoon wandering around the historic centre of the city. The streets of the upper part of the city in particular were beautiful and quaint with loads of character. It was also very quiet, with it feeling much smaller and village-like after the larger cites we had previously visited, which seemed rather perfect as it marked the start of a slower pace for the remainder of our trip.

So yep, I'd definitely rate Zagreb and recommend a visit if you're in the area.

next: the Istrian coast of Croatia.
