surf's up:

It's been a while since I've posted a little crafty DIY, so I thought it was time to bring it back and get all creative.
This one may be a little different, but it's super easy and the results are rather nice.

Living with a surfer means there is all sorts of surfing paraphernalia around and about, which I personally like as I love the handmade quality of surfboards and history of surf culture.
Taking inspiration from all the different styles of boards and fins that are now in the market, especially boards that are highly graphic and treated like a canvas, I thought I'd start small and see how I would go with a smaller yet iconic surf shape - the fins, before one day taking on a whole board.

I was lucky enough to score some old fins off my man and decided to paint them up and use them as decorative pieces in our home, creating an instant surf vibe.

It's super simple and you can follow along below.

step one: find some old surf fins of various sizes. If you don't have access to any, you can buy cheap sets on ebay.

step two: lightly sand the fins and paint on coat of primer.

step three: using acrylic paint, go crazy with the patterns and colour. I wanted to create a monochromatic look with an emphasis on simple patterns.

step four: after drying, find a nice little nook for them and hey presto, instant surf vibes! See? Easy peasy!
